Dancing with the Stars presented by Leaders Credit Union to benefit The STAR Center
I had the honor of dancing in the 7th annual "Dancing with the Stars" fundraising event at The Jackson Fairgrounds on October 29, 2022. My dance partner, Jameson Colbert, and I danced to support The Star Center. A non-profit organization that strives to help any person with any disability realize their potential. It was a night filled with entertainment, socializing, and fundraising. The Jackson community showed up strong to help #crushtheno!
Jameson and I had never met before being paired together. Right away, I knew we were in for a lot of fun. For every practice, Jameson arrived with his million dollar smile and positive vibes ready to work hard. We were both beyond excited to learn a few moves, as neither of us danced before. Like ever. Prom? No. Cheerleading, also no. Dance party in the living room with Kennedy and Beau, always yes. But not helpful here.
Our choreographer, Anna Lax with VSS Dance had the fun idea for us to portray a pop star and her bodyguard while dancing to a combination of Britney Spears' hits.
We shopped locally for our costumes. Jameson and Anna were styled by Reggie at Stylz Menswear. Jameson added the classic ear piece and sunglasses to round out his bodyguard look. I found it here: Bodyguard Accessories
I visited My Best Friend Jenna for a "toxic" look. Jenna chose the most perfect green Jovani feathered jumpsuit and paired it with sparkle booties. These boots were made for walkin... and dancing. So comfortable! I topped off the vibe with an iconic snake prop that got a lot of second looks and a bit of commentary from the judges. We didn't leave with the mirror ball trophy that evening, but this life sized snake plush toy alternates between my kid's rooms daily.
Special shout out to my hair and makeup artist Kayla Scott for bringing the full glam! She is one of my favorite HMUA for wedding days and I was so thankful to have her backstage with me.
Each couple danced their heart out and had fun along the way! Jodi Burgess with her partner Taylor told a story of him proposing and ended with her holding a copy of BRIDES Magazine. As a wedding photographer, this was definitely my favorite theme of the night!
The winners Marda Wallace and Jonathan Pounds danced to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and it was truly thrilling. Marda ended the routine in a full split that was met with a well deserved standing ovation. The two were the highest fundraisers for the event, contributing to over $300,000 for The Star Center!
Congratulations to the mirror ball CHAMPIONS, Marda Wallace and Jonathan Pounds!!
The event was photographed by Kristina with Only Photography. Thank you for allowing me to feature your work here.
I'd like to thank everyone that helped me reach my fundraising goal! Special shout out to Jackson Plumbing Company and Jordan Plant Services for your generous donation to The Star Center. If you would like to donate to The Star Center, please visit this LINK
