Proposal at Sunset, Taft Point, Yosemite
Bridal consultations are my favorite way to get to know KKP brides. Their vision, their plans, and the story that brought them to me. I love hearing the all about the proposal and seeing the ring. It's an exciting time and as your #1 hype girl, I want all of the deets.
It's only fair that I share a bit of our story for you. Starting with how Bret proposed.
Bret and I were honored when elopement photographer and faith based photography workshop host, Dani Purington, invited us to model for her in Yosemite. This was our first trip to Yosemite National Park. The views are beyond anything I could have imagined. It is certainly humbling to be in a place so unbelievably grand. We stayed at the historic Ahwahnee Hotel. The landmark property dates to 1927. It is ideally located in the valley with views of Glacier Point and the Half Dome. An experience in itself and my first encounter with a giant sequoia tree. I highly recommend the Ahwahnee if you're planning a trip to Yosemite.
Our shoot was scheduled for sunset on Taft Point. It's an easy hike up, maybe 20 minutes. I made the journey in this dress (styled by Dani) and booties. Bret in his Calvin Klein suit from Stylz Menswear. Through the trees on a well traveled path, we made it to the top. The view was incredible. Truly one of the most remarkable sights I've witnessed. There were several other photographers, a couple eloping, friends slack lining and hikers enjoying the view. Taft Point has become a popular spot for eloping with only your photographer and officiant. Or an ordained photographer. Rightfully so. If you're interested in eloping or even having portraits in Yosemite, your photographer will need a permit.
Dani directed us to various picturesque spots on the cliff. Never too close to the edge. The cape sleeves on my dress caught the breeze and light so beautifully. Just before the sun met the horizon, we moved to another location where she could photograph us from a ledge above but some distance from us. I couldn't hear her directing us so I assumed we were too far away. But then, Bret dropped to one knee and I knew we weren't posing any more.
I'm wearing a white dress. Obviously, the answer is yes.
The cliff burst into cheers and tears fell from my eyes. Complete strangers wished us a lifetime of happiness. It was a beautiful moment. I'm thankful he chose this opportunity to propose. I will treasure these images for the rest of our lives.
We're Engaged!
Before hiking down, we watched the last bit of light leave the sky. We prayed for our future, our family and stood in awe of the Lord's creation. The stars were beautifully bright. We wore headlamps to light the way down the trail.
If you're interested in eloping to Yosemite, reach out to Dani. She's a gem! If she's booked, you have my number. I can't wait to visit Yosemite again. Camera in hand.
